Syracuse University’s South Asia Center at the Maxwell School partnered with the Southeast Asia Program at Cornell University to celebrate Asian culture and educate attendees about wildlife conservation with a daylong Asian Elephant Extravaganza. Syracuse’s Dr. Sudha Raj, of the Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition, directed a Bharatanatyam performance for the crowds, and a mehendi artist delighted attendees with her original creations. Cornell’s Gamelan ensemble also performed, but all who attended agreed that the highlight of the day was the baby elephant Batu, born only a few months ago in the Rosamond Zoo.
